How to improve the acoustics in open-plan offices

Here we listed a few different ways to improve the sound environment in open-plan offices.

1. Avoid bare walls
Bare walls are often a contributing factor to poor acoustics as the sound bounces freely and the reverberation time is long. By installing sound absorbers on walls and/or ceilings, the noise level is reduced.

In an office environment of about 60 square meters with normal ceiling height, the rule of thumb is that the equivalent of 10-20% of the floor area should be covered with sound absorbers. How much is needed also depends on existing furnishings such as hard floors, glass surfaces, ceiling height and choice of furniture.

2. Combine different sound absorbers
The best effect is achieved by combining different types of acoustic panels. Wall absorbers work well in combination with bench screens and/or floor screens. Individual bench screens such as MyPlace and MyPlace Maxi also create a personalized workplace for maximized concentration and focus.

‍ Othertips in brief:

3. Decorate with textiles and upholstered furniture.

4. Use room dividers and create different activity zones.

5. Put furniture paws on chairs and table legs.

6. Plants are also sound-absorbing and contribute to a pleasant environment.
